Mobile coverage boost for Kakadu visitors
Published: 25 Aug 2025
Visitors to Kakadu National Park will now have more reliable mobile coverage and better access to emergency services, thanks to new upgrades jointly funded by the Commonwealth Government, Northern Territory Government and Telstra.
The $7.5 million Connecting Kakadu program began in May 2023 and is delivering improved connectivity across the park.
Mobile coverage is now available at Gunlom campground, Gungurul, Ikoymarrwa (Mary River Ranger Station) and the Northern Information Bay on the Arnhem Highway, and 3 more sites – Burrungkuy, Karnamarr and Maguk – are scheduled to receive coverage later in 2025.
The upgrades mean visitors and locals will be able to call Triple Zero from more areas within Kakadu. Even if their provider has no coverage, calls to emergency services can still be made through the Telstra network.
